I wanted to give you a heads up about some of the upcoming changes we’re planning to bring with the next update and why.
Currently defense is not valued very highly, and it’s possible to get to the world #1 position with just a single Sniper Tower and maxed offense – this doesn’t feel like healthy gameplay to us. One of the reasons for this is that the global top 50 are in their own bubble with their own matchmaking rule (they’re placed on more people’s maps). This rule isn’t applied to anyone outside of the top 50 and as a result, the top 50 are moving upwards in VPs in unison, leaving a gap in the VP range beneath them.
What we’d like to see happen is more diversity in statue usage and defense being considered valuable again.
To accomplish this we’re going to change the “top 50 only” matchmaking rule to work from 600 VPs upwards. The system will scale from 600 VPs to infinity gradually, so at 600 VPs you may not notice any change to your game, but as you climb you’ll be progressively placed on more people’s maps. The result of this, and what we’d like to see, is that defense will become more important as you climb in VPs and the guys in the top 50 won’t be in a bubble of their own anymore. This should encourage upgrading your defenses and make it impossible to reach global #1 with just a Sniper Tower!
Another system we’re changing to support this is that the bonus loot you get from PvP matches won’t be determined by the strength of your opponent’s defenses alone, but instead bonus PvP loot will be calculated based on total XP. This will further support the gameplay of building a balanced base, as that will be the best way to reach the top. Additionally, we’re adding an extra bit of bonus loot for high VP players, so if you see a high VP player on your map, you’ll be rewarded more for taking them down.
We understand that the above changes may be tough for some players at first, but ultimately the intention is to bring more balance to offense and defense, and create a healthier matchmaking environment for everyone.
